The British team claimed four podium spots in the Women’s World Tour event Emakumeen Bira
The 12th round of the Women’s World Tour calendar, Emakumeen Bira, brought luck to the Wiggle High5 Pro Cycling riders. The British squad, entirely equipped with Northwave Extreme RR shoes, grabbed four podium spots in the Basque stage race (May 19th-22nd), in Spain.
In the opening stage in Legazpi, Lisa Brennauer led the chase group behind Dutchwomen Sabrina Stultiens, as the two-time World Champion Giorgia Bronzini completed the podium.
On Sunday May 20th the 29-year-old German rider was also in the spotlight in the stage 2, a 26,6 Km-time trial from Agurain to Vitoria. Brennauer claimed the third place, as the ITT World Champion Annemiek Van Vleuten clinched victory ahead of the Olympic Champion Anna Van der Breggen.
In the stage 3, Swede Emilia Fahlin brought her Extreme RR on the podium: the 29-year-old born in Örebro grazed the success, crossing the finish line in second place behind Amy Pieters. German Clara Koppenburg scored third.
To end in style the Emakumeen Bira, Elisa Longo Borghini was runner-up in the fourth and last stage in Iurreta behind Amanda Spratt. In addition, the Australian rider conquered the overall win, whilst the Italian National Champion finished fifth at 1’27”.
