A European Champion for Northwave: Kristoff rides with Extreme RR

The 30-year-old Norwegian of the Team UAE Emirates chooses Northwave for a pivotal season of his career. “2014 Milano-Sanremo was the time of my life, now I dream of Paris-Roubaix”

Change is good, also to the great champions. Norwegian Alexander Kristoff will face the new season with this belief: a new team, UAE Emirates, the European Champion jersey conquered last summer and his new shoes, trusted allies in the pursuit of the seasonal goals.

Kristoff is the new great signing of Northwave in the road cycling World: winner of two monument Classics, Milan-Sanremo (2014) and Ronde Van Vlaanderen (2015), the 30-year-old Norwegian is a cycling rstar at the peak of his career. With his own Extreme RR - characterized by a livery inspired to the European Champion jersey - Kristoff will look to add to a 65-win career tally.

A fast and powerful rider, Kristoff suddenly rose to international glory with the unexpected triumph at 2014 Milano-Sanremo (“the best day of my career: I hope to win it again one day, but I think I will never get that same feeling again”), establishing himself among the top Classics contenders in the following seasons.

In its history, Northwave has shared unforgettable triumphs in the cobbles Classics with great champions such as Tom Boonen, Fabian Cancellara and Philippe Gilbert. Now, the Italian company dreams of new memorable days with Kristoff: Milano-Sanremo, Ronde Van Vlaanderen and Paris-Roubaix are the first goals of his 2018 season. In the second part of the season, the Team UAE Emirates rider will face the Tour de France, before going for defence of the European title in Glasgow (Scotland).

Over the years, I feel more like a classics specialist than a pure sprinter” – the new Northwave athlete explained, - “this year I will try to win back the Milan-Sanremo, but if I had to choose one among the early-season Monuments, I would go for Paris-Roubaix, the I have never won. Nevertheless, a rider like me will always need a sprint to win races like these, and that’s why I am happy to ride with Northwave Extreme RR shoes: the fit is perfect, and that’s crucial for a cycling shoe. In addition, the model is very light and stiff, perfect to transmit all the power on pedals”.

Northwave’s Founder and Owner Gianni Piva welcomed Kristoff in the headquarter in Onigo di Pederobba for a traditional company visit. “We are proud to announce the arrival of a cycling star like Alexander Kristoff in our family. Alexander is a great athlete and a model of professionalism. Working with athletes like Alexander is part of Northwave’s DNA: I have always believed that developing our shoes through the feedbacks of our champions is the key to our success”.

Extreme RR (Road Race) is the most performing model ever produced by Northwave: a new design, a stiffer sole and, above all, the revolutionary XFrame® patented technology, finally eliminating for good the long-time issue of most of riders: the points of pressure of the upper on the foot. Extreme RR is able to make pressure points a long-gone memory thanks to a new upper construction, made of new generation materials: inner mesh for increased comfort, a stiffened mid layer for even support through the support, and a 0,5 mm highly wear-resistant outer film for protection.

What makes Extreme RR a game changer is the combination of such ultra-soft and comfortable materials with a redesigned closure that sets new benchmarks in terms of fit uniformity around the entire foot. All of that also results in the best possible performance, as all the power is effectively transmitted on the pedals, also thanks to the best-performing Northwave sole ever: Ultralight Carbon 15, made of 100% unidirectional carbon combined with a reinforced layer, boasting a stiffness index of 15.0.

Alexander Kristoff will live his debut with Team UAE Emirates and the new Northwave Extreme RR shoes on Tuesday February 6th at Dubai Tour (UAE).
