Meintjes’ strong display in Critérium du Dauphiné’s last stage

Team UAE Emirates’ South African was one of the most brilliant climbers placing third in Plateau du Solaison with Northwave Extreme RR

Louis Meintjes showed himself as one of 69th Critérium du Dauphiné’s most brilliant climbers, in France, finishing third in the eighth and final stage, 115 Km from Albertville to Plateau du Solaison, characterized by tough alpine climbs such as Col des Saisies, il Col des Aravis and Col de la Colombière.

Equipped by Northwave with Extreme RR shoes, UAE Emirates’ athlete faced the final ascent with a regular pace, with a strong display in the last kilometers. Meintjes ended his race behind Dane Jakob Fuglsang (stage and overall winner) and Irish Daniel Martin.

The 25-year-old South African rider preceded many of upcoming Tour de France’s tob guns: Fabio Aru (fifth), Romain Bardet (sixth), Richie Porte (seventh), Christopher Froome (eighth), Alejandro Valverde (tenth) and Alberto Contador (eleventh).

Meintjes finished eighth in the overall standings, 3:12 behind Fuglsang, and was runner-up in the Youth Classification, 0:40 behind German Emanuel Buchmann.
