Northwave’s celebration continues: Keller takes World title in U23 race

One-two for the Northwave athletes in the Women’s U23 race at the UCI Mountain Bike World Championships in Lenzerheide: Swiss Alessandra Keller grabs the gold medal ahead of Sina Frei. Petter Fagerhaug fourth in the Men’s U23 competition

Alessandra Keller conquered the gold medal in the Women’s U23 race at the UCI Mountain Bike World Championships, in Lenzerheide (Switzerland), on Friday September 7th, giving Northwave the second success of the 2018 edition, after the Jolanda Neff and Sina Frei had contributed to Switzerland’s win in the Team Relay of Wednesday September 5th.

Supplied by the Italian company based in Onigo di Pederobba, the 22-year-old home rider dominated the opponents, forcing the pace in lap 1 with another Northwave’s biker, defending champion Sina Frei, winner at Cairns ’17 (Australia). The Thömus RN Racing Team rider unleashed the decisive attack in lap 3, outdistancing Sina Frei, second on the finish line at 1’22” with her Northwave Ghost XC shoes.

Behind the Northwave athletes, Italian Marika Tovo grabbed the bronze medal at 1’40”, whilst three more bikers equipped by the Italian brand entered the day’s top-10: Denmark’s Caroline Bohe and Malene Degn and French Loana Lecomte, fifth, eighth and tenth on the finish line, respectively.

In the Men’s U23 competition, UCI World Cup’s overall winner Petter Fagerhaug claimed the fourth place with Northwave Ghost XC shoes, preceded by South African Alan Hatherly, US' Christopher Blevins and Dutchman David Nordemann. After suffering a minor crash halfway through the race, the Norwegian prospect rose toward the leading positions in the last two laps with an impressive comeback, grazing the podium, 1’24” behind winner Hatherly.

Tomorrow, Saturday September 8th, the Cross Country’s Worlds programme will come to a close with the Elite categories’ races, Women and Men. Northwave hope to defend the Women's title with Swiss Jolanda Neff (start at 12:30 am CET), while Maxime Marotte (France), Henrique Avancini (Brazil) and Mathias Flückiger (Switzerland) are the main cards of the Italian brand for the men’s race (start at 3:30 pm CET).

Ghost XC is the first Mountain Bike shoe by Northwave featuring the exclusive XFrame® technology, that eliminates pressure points from the upper. Northwave’s patented XFrame® technology makes pressure points a thing of the past, thanks to a new upper construction, made of new generation materials: inner mesh for increased comfort, a stiffened mid layer for even support through the support, and a 0,5 mm highly wear-resistant outer film for protection.

The innovative technology adds to Northwave’s extensive expertise in MTB shoes, and the performance of the exclusive Hyperlight XC outsole - co-developed with Michelin Technical Soles. Fully realized in unidirectional carbon fiber, Hyperlight XC is the outcome of biomechanical studies to locate materials only where actually needed for maximum efficiency, so to be able to combine very low weight and extreme rigidity – it grades 14 in the Northwave stiffness index.
