Northwave sweeps World Cup’s Short Track with Avancini and Keller

The Italian brand rules in Andorra-Vallnord: Cannondale Factory Racing’s Brazilian won the men’s race, whilst the Thömus/RN Racing Swiss conquered the success in the women’s category

The mountains change, from Alps to Pyrenees, but the UCI Mountain Bike World Cup keeps giving satisfactions to Northwave. After the Val di Sole World Cup weekend, capped with two wins in the Under 23 Men’s and Women’s cross country with Norwegian Petter Fagerhaug and Swiss Sina Frei, Henrique Avancini and Alessandra Keller gave the Italian company two more victories in the Short Track events in Andorra-Vallnord, on Friday July 13th – their career first in the World Cup.

Equipped with Northwave Ghost XC, the Cannondale Factory Racing Brazilian preceded Dutchman Mathieu Van der Poel and Italian National Champion Gerhard Kerschbaumer, with two more Northwave’s athletes in the day’s top-10, Avancini’s teammates, Maxime Marotte and Manuel Fumic, seventh and tenth respectively.

Avancini now occupies the fourth place in World Cup’s overall standings with 711 points behind Marotte, third with 771 points, as World Champion Nino Schurter (1205) leads ahead of Van der Poel (920). Fifth overall place for the European Champion, Northwave’s Florian Vogel (Focus XC Team), with 657 points; ninth Manuel Fumic (503).

In the women’s race, Alessandra Keller crossed the finish line ahead of Dane Annika Langvad, whilst another biker supplied by the Italian brand, Magyar Barbara Benko (Ghost Factory Racing) completed the top-3, ahead of World Champion Jolanda Neff (KROSS Racing Team). The blonde Swiss maintained the overall leadership with 1050 points, ahead of Langvad (1023) and Keller (830).
