Northwave, golden start at the Worlds: Neff and Frei celebrate in Team Relay

Jolanda Neff, Sina Frei and Northwave Ghost XC shoes claimed the first title at the UCI Mountain Bike World Championships: in Lenzerheide (Switzerland), the home riders controlled the Team Relay from the start to the finish, with Manuel Fumic’s Germany in second place and Malene Degn’s Denmark in third position

Dazzling start for Northwave at the 2018 UCI Mountain Bike World Championships, in Lenzerheide (Switzerland), started on Wednesday September 5th with the Team Relay. The home riders equipped with Ghost XC shoes, contributed to the Swiss triumph in the relay race that opened the Worlds programme.

Rounded out by Nino Schurter, Filippo Colombo and Alexandre Balmer, the Swiss “dream team” controlled the situation from start to finish, living up to the predictions. Behind Switzerland, the Germany team, led by Northwave’s Manuel Fumic, claimed the silver medal, crossing the finish line 13 seconds behind the winners, whilst Malene Degn’s Denmark completed the podium at 34 seconds. Italy finished fourth ahead of the French team featuring two Northwave’s athletes, Maxime Marotte and Loana Lecomte.

Jolanda Neff and Sina Frei contributed to the Swiss selection in laps 3 and 4: after the first two stints by Colombo and Balmer, the Northwave bikers controlled the main rivals, whilst Olympic and World Champion Nino Schurter unleashed the decisive attack in the final lap, giving Switzerland the gold medal.

Tomorrow, Thursday September 6th, the Worlds programme in Lenzerheide will continue with the first individual races: Junior Women (2:00 pm CET) and Junior Men (4:30 pm CET).

After conquering the overall win in the Mountain Bike World Cup in the Elite and U23 categories, Jolanda Neff and Sina Frei helped Northwave Ghost XC to the first triumph at the 2018 UCI Mountain Bike World Championships. Ghost XC is the first Mountain Bike shoe by Northwave featuring the exclusive XFrame® technology, that eliminates pressure points from the upper. Northwave’s patented XFrame® technology makes pressure points a thing of the past, thanks to a new upper construction, made of new generation materials: inner mesh for increased comfort, a stiffened mid layer for even support through the support, and a 0,5 mm highly wear-resistant outer film for protection.

The innovative technology adds to Northwave’s extensive expertise in MTB shoes, and the performance of the exclusive Hyperlight XC outsole - co-developed with Michelin Technical Soles. Fully realized in unidirectional carbon fiber, Hyperlight XC is the outcome of biomechanical studies to locate materials only where actually needed for maximum efficiency, so to be able to combine very low weight and extreme rigidity – it grades 14 in the Northwave stiffness index.
