Northwave lived a day to remember on Sunday March 31st, claiming three prestigious wins in the main appointments of the international calendar. The athletes equipped with Northwave Extreme Pro shoes dominated the 81st Gent-Wevelgem in Belgium: Norwegian Alexander Kristoff (UAE-Team Emirates) won the men’s race, whilst Dutch Kirsten Wild secured the women’s competition. A few hours earlier, Colombian Miguel Angel Lopez gave Astana Pro Team the twenty-first seasonal win, takingthe 101st Volta Ciclista a Catalunya’s overall win.
ONE-TWO IN BELGIUM WITH KRISTOFF AND WILD
A reduced sprint decided the Gent-Wevelgem, both in the men and women race, and Northwave XFrame2® patented technology made the difference together with the champions equipped by the Italian company.
In the men’s race, Alexander Kristoff preceded on the finish line German John Degenkolb and Belgian Oliver Naesen, taking advantage by the top-performing Powershape® Carbon 15 outsole, securing maximum power transmission on pedals. The former European Champion’s resounding sprint eventually solved a tough race with crosswinds and many attempts.
Likewise, the women’s race saw Kirsten Wild outsprinting Lorena Wiebes and Letizia Paternoster. The Dutch rider took her second seasonal road win, three days after the success claimed at Driedaagse Brugge-De Panne.
MIGUEL ANGEL LOPEZ BRINGS ASTANA PRO TEAM THE 21st SEASONAL WIN
Colombian Miguel Angel Lopez added another success to the impressive early season of Astana Pro Team, the Kazakh World Tour squad entirely supplied with Northwave Extreme Pro shoes. The 25-year-old born in Pasca grabbed the overall win at Volta Ciclista a Catalunya, defending in Barcelona’s final stage (won by Italian Davide Formolo) the leader jersey conquered Thursday March 28th in La Molina.
Overall second and third at 14 and 17 seconds respectively, Adam Yates and Egan Bernal joined Lopez on the final podium. Astana Pro Team’s Colombian also won the Youth Classification, whilst the Kazakh squad finished third in the Teams Classification. Volta a Catalunya’s final success enhanced Astana Pro Team as the most successful World Tour squad in 2019 so far.
