Northwave celebrates at Volta Valenciana with Ion Izagirre

Astana Pro Team’s rider claims the overall win in Spain, giving Extreme Pro a prestigious success, with Pello Bilbao in third place. Kristoff runner-up in the final stage

Ion Izagirre’s overall win, two podium spots occupied by Izagirre and Pello Bilbao and the success in the Teams Classification. 70th Volta a la Comunitat Valenciana’s fifth and last stage - 88 Km from Paterna to Valencia (Spain) - ended in the name of Northwave and Astana Pro Team, the Kazakh squad entirely supplied with Extreme Pro, the top-range road shoes of Northwave’s 2019 collection.

On Sunday February 10th, Izagirre claimed the first seasonal win, preceding in the overall standings the World Champion Alejandro Valverde and his teammate Bilbao, both distanced of 7 seconds by the winner, whilst Dutchman Dylan Groenewegen conquered the final stage, preceding in a massive sprint Northwave’s Alexander Kristoff (UAE-Team Emirates) and European Champion Matteo Trentin.

Izagirre’s winning ride started in the opening time trial in Orihuela, finished in second place behind Norwegian Edvald Boasson Hagen. Thanks to the result achieved in the stage 1 and his good climbing skills, the 30-year-old Basque remained in the top positions of the General Classification, moving to the top after the queen stage of Saturday February 9th, in Alcala-Alcocebre.
