Home rider Nikola Noskova dominated the road race at the 2018 European Championships, in Brno (Czech Republic), as Italian Letizia Paternoster claimed the bronze medal
Nikola Noskova took the gold medal in the Women’s U23 road race at the 2018 European Championships, in Brno (Czech Republic), on Saturday July 14th. The home rider dominated the rivals, soloing on the finish line. Behind the winner, Dutch Soet Aafke (+3’49”) claimed the second place ahead of another Northwave’s rider, Italian Letizia Paternoster (+7’15”), bronze medal with Northwave Extreme RR. Long fighting for the bronze medal, Italian Elena Pirrone finished eighth at 10’29”.
Noskova unleashed the first attack in the early passages of the tough Brno circuit, but Aafke and Pirrone reached the Czech rider at the front of the race. With 60 Km to go, Noskova increased the pace, outdistancing her rivals, whilst Aafke consolidated the second place. Elena Pirrone slipped out of the top-3 due to cramps, but the Italian National Team still conquered the bronze medal thanks to Letizia Paternoster, winner of the sprint for third place.
