Volta Ciclista a Catalunya’s stage 4 - 150,3 Km from Llanars to La Molina (Spain) - was the spotlight of Miguel Angel Lopez’ show. The Colombian climber gave Astana Pro Team - entirely equipped with Northwave Extreme Pro shoes - the twentieth seasonal win, on Thursday March 28th.
Lopez soloed on the finish line and achieved the overall lead: behind the 25-year-old from Pasca, Austria’s Gregor Mühlberger and Spain’s Marc Soler completed the daily podium. In the GC, Lopez leads with 14 seconds of advantage on Brit Adam Yates and 17” on Colombian-fellow Egan Bernal.
Astana’s rider outdistanced the main contenders for Volta a Catalunya’s overall win with 5 Km remaining. Lopez joined the first escapees of the day, Mühlberger and Soler (Movistar), and dropped both in view of the finish line, dedicating the success to his wife, that will make him father in the next weeks.
Good news for Northwave came from the women cycling too: Kirsten Wild (WNT-Rotor Pro Cycling) grabbed the first seasonal win in road cycling at Driedaagse Brugge-De Panne, in Belgium, outsprinting Lorena Wiebers and Lotte Kopecky.
