Wiggle High5 Pro Cycling’s Dutch sprinted to win in Giro d'Italia Femminile's stage 2 with Extreme RR shoes
Kirsten Wild of Wiggle High5 Pro Cycling - Women’s World Tour team entirely equipped with Northwave Extreme RR shoes – won the stage 2 of Giro d'Italia Femminile (Ovada - Ovada, 120,4 Km), the Women’s Giro d’Italia, in Northern Italy, on Saturday July 7th.
The 35-year-old Dutch rider took advantage of the XFrame® patented technology of her Northwave Extreme RR, emerging as the fastest rider in the bunch sprint. Behind the winner, two-time World Champion Giorgia Bronzini was runner-up, whilst three-time Giro Rosa overall winner Marianne Vos completed a prestigious podium. Lucinda Brand claimed the overall leadership, wearing the “maglia rosa”.
The Wiggle High5’s athletes, starting with Swedish Champion Emilia Fahlin and Japanese Champion Eri Yonamine, helped their leader in the best way: in fact, Wild finalized the job of her teammates, grabbing her fourth win in the road season and the leadership in the Points Classification. It has been an impressive season overall for the Dutch rider: at the Track World Championships in Apeldoorn (Netherlands), in March, Wild had achieved three World titles (Scratch, Omnium and Points Race) and the silver medal in the Madison.
Tomorrow, Sunday July 8th, the athletes will face the stage 3 of the Italian race (Corbetta - Corbetta, 132 Km), suited for sprinters.
The European Champion Alexander Kristoff (UAE-Team Emirates) finished fourth in Tour de France’s opening stage (Noirmoutier – Fontenay-le-Comte, 201 Km), won by Colombian Fernando Gaviria ahead of the World Champion Peter Sagan and German Marcel Kittel.
