The Swiss dominated the MTB Women's Cross-Country bringing another gold to Northwave while Danish Julie Leth enlighted the Italian brand’s successful Europeans with the last title on track
Northwave experienced another unforgettable day at 2018 European Championships in Glasgow by ruling the Women's Cross-Country competition. Swiss Jolanda Neff clinched a prestigious gold medal with her Northwave Ghost XC shoes - characterized by the exclusive XFrame® technology, that eliminates the pressure points on the upper.
The 25-year-old World Champion rode away from the field in extraordinary fashion, relentlessly increasing her lead lap by lap on the demanding course in the Glasgow city area. 37 athletes took the start. Neff crossed the line in one hour 31 minutes 29 seconds; the nearest challenger, France’s Pauline Ferrand Prevot closed at +2:04, with Belgian Githa Michiels to round out the podium, +3:27. In Glasgow, Jolanda Neff claimed her fifth continental title, from the junior one in 2011, then twice as a Under 23 (2012 and 2015) and eventually in the elite category where she had already achieved the first win in Sweden, 2016.
The athletes equipped with Norhwave Ghost XC shoes provided a good display in the Men’s race as well. Swiss Lukas Flueckiger placed fourth, 0:39 behind his teammate and winne Lars Forster. Swiss Reto Indergand and Russian Anton Sintsov, +0:50 and +1:08, fifth and seventh respectively.
The Track European Championships concluded the 2018 edition meanwhile with Northwave securing a further gold. Denmark’s Julie Leth paired along her countrywoman Amalie Dideriksen took the Women’s Madison Continental title ahead of Russia and Netherlands. Kirsten Wild was again the superb protagonist of Dutch pairing to celebrate with another bronze her resounding European Championships in Glasgow, where also Northwave shined on track with 6 gold medals and 10 podium spots overall.
