Northwave celebrates in Mountain Bike World Championships’ opening race in Cairns (Australia) thanks to the athletes of the Swiss team equipped with Extreme XC. Malene Degn silver medal with the Danish team
Jolanda Neff and Filippo Colombo gave Northwave a jump start at the Mountain Bike World Championships, in Cairns (Australia). In the first race of the event, the Team Relay of Wednesday September 6th, the athletes equipped with Extreme XC shoes gave a decisive contribution to the success of the Swiss Team ahead of Denmark and France.
U23 rider Filippo Colombo launched the Swiss relay, finishing the first lap in sixth place, 30 seconds behind the lead of the race occupied by Samuel Gaze’s New Zealand. After the fractions of Roth and Frei, Jolanda Neff overtook several opponents, moving up to second by the end of lap 4, passing the baton to Nino Schurter who dominated the final round crossing the finish line in first position.
Switzerland clocked 1:05’08, with a 24 second advantage on the silver Danish team, including Northwave’s rider Malene Degn, and France, bronze. Seventh place for the Germany team of Sabine Spitz and Manuel Fumic (+1’45”), whilst Barbara Benko’s Hungary finished ninth (+2’46”).
Tomorrow, Thursday September 7th, the individual races’ programme will start in Australia with the Junior Women and Junior Men categories.
