Memorable one-two for Northwave Ghost XC in Auronzo di Cadore (Belluno, Northern Italy): the Brazilian wins ahead of Austrian Geismayr
Henrique Avancini gave Northwave another highlight of an already impressive 2018 Mountain Bike season. A week after the Under 23 XC World title won by Swiss Alessandra Keller, on Saturday September 15th the 29-year-old Brazilian conquered the gold medal at the Mountain Bike Marathon World Championships, in Auronzo di Cadore (Belluno, Northern Italy), taking his Northwave Ghost XC shoes on the top spot of the podium in the men’s race.
Behind the athlete born in Pètropolis, another biker supplied with Northwave Ghost XC, Austrian Daniel Geismayr, whilst Colombian Leonardo Paez completed the podium ahead of Northwave’s Mathias Flückiger (Switzerland).
After Howard Grotts’ fast start, Avancini, Geismayr and Flückiger led the chase together with Tiago Ferreira (Portugal) and Alexey Medvedev (Russia). After bringing Grotts backs, Avancini, Paez and Medvedev moved on the attack in the Col de Varda climb, but things got back together in the downhill towards the Misurina lake. In the following ascent, Tre Cime di Lavaredo (Rifugio Auronzo), Paez and Geismayr forced the pace, outdistancing Avancini, but the Brazilian rejoined the front of the race on the descent. Then, Avancini and Geismayr launched a counter-attack, followed by Paez, near the last check point, but in view of the finish line, Avancini used his explosiveness to unleash the decisive kick, preceding Geismayr, whilst Paez claimed the bronze medal.
Ghost XC is the first Mountain Bike shoe by Northwave featuring the exclusive XFrame® technology, that eliminates pressure points from the upper. Northwave’s patented XFrame® technology makes pressure points a thing of the past, thanks to a new upper construction, made of new generation materials: inner mesh for increased comfort, a stiffened mid layer for even support through the support, and a 0,5 mm highly wear-resistant outer film for protection.
The innovative technology adds to Northwave’s extensive expertise in MTB shoes, and the performance of the exclusive Hyperlight XC outsole - co-developed with Michelin Technical Soles. Fully realized in unidirectional carbon fiber, Hyperlight XC is the outcome of biomechanical studies to locate materials only where actually needed for maximum efficiency, so to be able to combine very low weight and extreme rigidity – it grades 14 in the Northwave stiffness index.
