Northwave took four stage wins and the final podium in the men and women’s categories in the South African Marathon stage race. Third place for the Cannondale duo, whilst German Spitz achieved an excellent second overall place
It was an good 15th Absa Cape Epic for Northwave, as one of the most demanding, entertaining and important stage MTB marathons in the World calendar came to an end on Sunday March 25th in South Africa. Four stage wins and the final podium in the men and women’s categories is the tally of the athletes equipped with Ghost XC, the first Northwave’s MTB shoes to feature the exclusive XFrame® technology, that eliminates the pressure points on the upper, offering the maximum power transfer on the pedals and the snuggest fit ever.
Two beautiful stage wins and great consistency: after a flying start, characterized by victories in the stages one and two, German Manuel Fumic and Brazilian Henrique Avancini (Cannondale Factory Racing) showed to be one of the strongest pairs of the 2018 Cape Epic, taking the third overall place, 13’12” behind the winners, Jaroslav Kulhavy and Howard Grotts (Investec Songo Specialized). Second place for Alban Lakata and Kristian Hynek (+ 9’38”), whilst another Northwave’s biker, Austrian Daniel Geismayr, and his teammate Nicola Rohrbach finished fifth, after winning the opening prologue and the queen stage on Wellington’s finish line.
Like Fumic and Avancini, German Sabine Spitz was in the spotlight with a strong performance in the women’s race, together with teammate Robyn de Groot. The Ascendis Health’s duo finished in second place behind the winners, Annika Langvad and Kate Courtney, whilst Mariske Strauss and Annie Last completed the final podium.
