Shining both in TT and on the uphills, UAE-Team Emirates’ 21-year-old rider claimed the Vuelta a San Juan’s third overall. Eiking and Northwave grazed win at Gran Prix Cycliste la Marseillaise
Although the second gold in the Individual Pursuit at the upcoming Track World Championships remains his first seasonal goal, Italian Filippo Ganna started under the best auspices his road season with a brilliant third overall place at the Vuelta a San Juan, on Sunday January 28th.
With his Northwave Extreme RR shoes, UAE-Team Emirates’ 21-year-old rider showed good legs since the stage 2, placing fourth on the Peri Lago Punta Negra finish line, a great boost for the stage 3 where he conquered the overall leadership finishing second behind Irish Ryan Mullen in the time trial. Again, Ganna pushed hard in the queen stage on the Alto de Colorado uphill finish, placing sixth and defending his third overall spot, 1’11” behind winner, Argentina’s Gonzalo Najar, whilst Oscar Sevilla was runner-up at 51”. Ganna also topped the Youth Classification, taking advantage by the XFrame® patented technology of his Extreme RR that offer the most comfortable fit, eliminating the points of pressure of the upper on the foot.
NORWEGIAN EIKING GRAZES WIN IN FRANCE
Odd Christian Eiking of Wanty-Groupe Gobert, team entirely equipped by Northwave with Extreme RR shoes and Extreme Air socks, grazed the first seasonal win at Gran Prix Cycliste la Marseillaise, in France. The Norwegian rider, 23, was preceded by Alexandre Geniez in a reduced sprint, whilst Lilian Calmejane placed third. Guillaume Martin, fifth, and Xandro Meurisse, twelfth, completed an excellent seasonal debut for the Belgian team, that received the Tour de France’s wild card for the second year in a row.
