Elisa Longo Borghini runner-up in Giro Rosa stage 8

Northwave and Wiggle High5’s athlete grazes win at Giro d’Italia Femminile with Extreme RR

Northwave’s Elisa Longo Borghini of the Wiggle High5 Pro Cycling – Women’s World Tour team entirely equipped by the Italian brand with Extreme RR shoes - clinched second in Giro d’Italia Femminile’s stage 8 (San Giorgio di Perlena - Breganze, 121,6 Km). On Friday July 13th, the 26-year-old Italian rider crossed the finish line behind the European Champion Marianne Vos, whilst Lucinda Brand completed the day’s podium.

Longo Borghini, Vos and Brand moved on the attack on the Fara Vicentino ascent: the three-rider group shared their common effort outdistancing the rivals for the stage win. Vos prevailed in the final sprint, preceding the former Italian National Champion. Quiet day for the overall leader Annemiek Van Vleuten that retained the pink jersey.

Two more Northwave girls, Sofia Bertizzolo (Astana Women’s Team) and Nadia Quagliotto (Top Girls Fassa Bortolo), entered the day’s top-10, scoring seventh and ninth, respectively. The two athletes equipped with Extreme RR shoes and the technical apparel designed and realized by Northwave Custom Project top the Youth Classification: Bertizzolo leads with 56 seconds of advantage on Quagliotto.
