It was a relatively quiet day at the Absa Cape Epic, in South Africa, on Tuesday March 21st: Cannondale Factory Racing’s Manuel Fumic and Henrique Avancini finished third in stage 2, 102 Km from Hermanus to Greiton, preceded by stage winners Christoph Sauser and Jaroslav Kulhavy, and the Swiss duo, Nino Schurter – Matthias Stirnemann.
The three leading pairs have raced together for most of the stage, taking turns in the lead. In the finale, Fumic and Avancini controlled Sauser and Kulhavy who promoted the decisive attack in the last meters, preceding the rivals by only a few seconds.
Nothing has changed in the overall standings, where Fumic and Avancini lead with their Northwave Extreme XC shoes, with 2’39” of advantage on Sauser-Kulhavy and 5’22” on Schurter-Stirnemann.
In the Women’s category, Northwave’s rider Sabine Spitz claimed the second place together with teammate Robyn de Groot, preceded in the final sprint by Swiss Ester Suss and Swede Jennie Stenerhag, stage winners and overall leaders.
