Wanty-Groupe Gobert’s 27-year-old athlete equipped with Northwave Extreme RR on the day’s podium from a break with Cummings, Nibali and Bernal
Giro di Toscana’s opening stage (Pontedera - Pontedera 181 Km), in Italy, was expected to be a sprinters’ affair, but a 4-man breakaway group earned the chance to contest the stage win and the first overall leader jersey, on Tuesday September 26th.
With 25 Km to go, Northwave’s athlete Frederik Backaert moved on the attack together with Vincenzo Nibali, Egan Bernal and Stephen Cummings. The Brit rider outsprinted the Colombian youngster and the Wanty-Groupe Gobert’s 25-year-old athlete, third with Northwave Extreme RR shoes and Extreme Light Pro socks, whilst Nibali finished fourth.
Backaert occupies the third overall place behind leader Cummings and Bernal in view of the second and last stage scheduled tomorrow, Wednesday September 27th, 165,1 Km from Lajatico to Volterra.
