Wanty-Groupe Gobert’s one-two in the stage 4 of the French race, whilst Gesbert (opening stage winner) finished second overall. Cima placed third in Tour de l’Avenir’s opener
The 50th Tour du Limousin ended in the name of Northwave. Guillaume Martin and Jerome Baugnies gave the Wanty-Groupe Gobert team - entirely supplied with Extreme RR shoes and Extreme Air socks - a beautiful one-two in the stage 4 (Saint-Junien - Limoges, 168,9 Km), on Friday August 18th.
The Wanty’s duo crossed the finish line in Limoges on parade, concluding successfully an attempt started with 80 Km to go. Behind the escapees, Dutchman Mathieu Van der Poel led the chasing group claiming the third place.
Northwave closed in great style the 4 days of race, started on a high with Elie Gesbert’s win on the opening day, Tuesday August 15th. The Fortuneo-Oscaro’s 22-year-old athlete wore the GC jersey in the following stages, finishing second overall behind Alexis Vuillermoz, whilst Italian Francesco Gavazzi completed the final podium.
Martin and Baugnies’ teammate, Belgian Kenny Dehaes, placed fifth in the 32nd Veenendaal Veenendaal Classic, in the Netherlands, as Slovenian Luka Mezgec clinched victory preceding home riders Wouter Wippert and Moreno Hofland.
U23: CIMA BRILLIANT THIRD IN AVENIR’S OPENER
Imerio Cima (Italy) grabbed a prestigious third place in Tour de l’Avenir’s stage 1 (Loudéac - Loudéac 134 Km), in France, the most important stage race of the U23 calendar. Equipped by Northwave with Extreme RR shoes, the 19-year-old rider was preceded by winner Kasper Asgreen (Denmark) and the U23 World Champion Kristoffer Halvorsen (Norway).
